TikTok Shop Fee Updates

Public changelog of fee-model defaults used by this site’s calculators — reverse chronological, dated, and independent of TikTok.

We track planning defaults for the free TikTok Shop profit calculator (US, UK, EU): referral / commission rates, refund administration assumptions, and FBT unit placeholders. When a number here disagrees with TikTok Shop Seller Center for your market, Seller Center wins.

Full official links, formulas, and limitations live on Sources & methodology. This page is for crawl freshness, transparency, and a short history of what changed in our model — not an official TikTok partnership or announcement channel.

Changelog

Dates below are either our dataset publish dates or the policy effective dates we reference from Academy materials. Historical entries summarize public policy context used to build the model; they are not live TikTok notices.

Initial public fee dataset & multi-region calculator

What changed: Published the site’s first dated fee dataset powering the calculator: US referral 6% general / 5% selected jewelry; UK platform commission 9%; EU standard 9% with selected electronics 7%; US refund administration fee modeled as 20% of referral with a $5 per SKU cap; FBT single/multi unit costs as planning placeholders only; multi-region profit, break-even, and FBT tools launched.

Impact on sellers: You can scenario-plan net profit after referral, creator commission, fulfillment, returns, and ads in one place — but every rate is still a default you should override from Seller Center. FBT placeholders are not substitute for the live rate card.

EU commission context: 9% standard / 7% electronics

What changed (policy context): From January 2026, per EU Academy materials referenced on our sources page (category commission tables effective around 8 Jan 2026), EU5 planning rates in our model use 9% standard on settled orders and 7% for listed Electronics / related sub-categories — not every gadget automatically qualifies.

Impact on sellers: EU P&Ls built on older headline rates should be re-run. Electronics sellers should confirm category mapping in Seller Center before assuming 7%. Temporary new-seller reductions (e.g. mission-based) remain optional toggles, not permanent margins.

US refund administration fee cap at $5 per SKU

What changed: Per the official US referral fee policy materials, refund administration is modeled as a share of the referral fee on refunds (commonly ~20%), with a $5 per SKU cap effective from mid-May 2025. Our US defaults reflect that cap when estimating return-related drag.

Impact on sellers: High-return categories cannot ignore admin drag on top of lost margin and reverse logistics. Price with expected return rate in mind; do not treat “6% referral only” as all-in TikTok cost.

US referral moves to a unified ~6% model

What changed: US Seller Academy materials describe a unified referral structure at 6% on qualified orders from 1 Apr 2024 (with later category exceptions such as selected jewelry at 5%). Our US general default follows that 6% baseline.

Impact on sellers: Older multi-tier US assumptions no longer match the simple planning rate. Compare product math against UK/EU 9% all-in markets carefully — referral is only one line; creator commission and fulfillment still dominate contribution margin.

Are these official TikTok announcements?
No. This is an independent educational site. Entries describe how we updated calculator defaults from public Academy materials. We are not affiliated with TikTok and do not speak for the platform.
What if Seller Center shows a different fee?
Trust Seller Center. Override category rates, FBT unit costs, and promo toggles in the profit calculator, and treat our defaults as planning assumptions that may lag. See sources & methodology for official links.
